New Canada Dating Service Going into Dragon’s Den

Kipici, an online dating service based out of New Brunswick, Canada, will be appearing on the investment-based realty TV program Dragon’s Den on May 11. The new online dating service is run by Atwood, using proprietary software for matchmaking. When appearing on Dragon’s Den, the founders will recognize one of the dragon’s on the show – the former CEO of LavaLife, Bruce Croxon who is a new dragon appearing in the 2011/2012 version of the show. Dragon’s Den is a reality-based production where people pitch ideas and inventions and ask for money from very rich people (called “Dragons”) who decide if they want to invest their own money in the idea. The presenter must be offered the full amount they are asking for on the show or they leave the “Den” empty-handed. The United States version of the show is called “Shark Tank”.

“The opportunity to pitch to a Canadian dating-industry legend is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” says Theresa Williams who is CEO of Kipici and Atwood. Kipici sets itself apart from other Canada-based online dating services by doing local events and offering “MatchMaster” coaching and advice from relationship experts.

Williams says the time is right for another online dating service with an edge.

“The rapidly increasing rate of singles demonstrates that people really do need help finding love, whether they realize it or not,” says Williams. “Most single people believe they have no problem getting dates, but if you ask them how many dates they have been on in the past year; it’s usually in the single digits. We want to help those who are looking for love, but to find it they first have to be willing.”

On May 11 Kipici/Atwood will be presenting some of its philosophy and technology to the dragons on Dragon’s Den in hopes of landing a big investment to help the new dating service rapidly expand. The episode won’t air until later this year

eHarmony Canada Going Strong

(Canada Online Dating News) In February 2010, online dating service eHarmony will celebrate three years in Canada. eHarmony Canada launched in Canada on February 12, 2007, just in time for Valentine’s Day. In the United States, a research study conducted by Harris Interactive in 2006  found that eHarmony was responsible for 33,000 marriages a year. eHarmony has since been expanding into other countries to spread that success.

When eHarmony Canada launched in 2007, it’s CEO, Greg Waldorf stated:

“If you’re going to match singles who have the highest probability of marital satisfaction, the eHarmony model – matching singles who share broad based compatibility – is the only scientifically proven way to do it. Launching and promoting country specific sites like eHarmony Canada is going to enable us to introduce our unique matching system to more people around the world.”

eHarmony isn’t a traditional online dating service. In fact, the company refers to itself as a “relationship service” because it is aimed at people seeking relationships versus those seeking just to casually date. eHarmony Canada requires users to fill out an in-depth personality profile before they can become a member. Dozens of questions help the service to match users based on compatibility.
